Tropical House Cricket
Scientific Name: Gryllodes sigillatus
Size: Total Length 12-22 mm
What does it look like?
The Tropical House Cricket is pale yellowish-brown with a single black transverse line between eyes. Body dorsoventrally flattened. Adult male with wings, used in production of song, and female with long ovipositor.
Where is it found?
Worldwide, likely native to southern Asia.
What are its habitats & habits?
The Tropical House Cricket was introduced to Australia for breeding purposes, like in many other countries, and may be sold as bait, as feeder insects for pets like reptiles and birds, or used for scientific research. Escaped or released crickets may establish local feral populations but do not tend to thrive away from human habitation.
