Photographing Tancho (丹頂) in Hokkaido

In February this year I went to Japan with my kids, and we travelled through the mainland’s north and across to Hokkaido. It was a wonderful trip!
One of my main objectives was to photograph Tancho (Red-crowned) Cranes, and Stellar’s Sea-Eagles in the snow and ice.
My latest Substack article showcases some of the images and video I took, and the vital lesson I learned from a local Japanese photographer about photographing these largely white birds in the bright snow.
