Terrestrial Elapid and Sea Snakes
(Family: Elapidae)
A family of venomous snakes that give birth to live young (sea snakes and some terrestrial elapids) or lay eggs (most terrestrial elapids). Bites on humans typically only occur when they try to pick up, provoke or kill the snake, or unwittingly stand on it when walking through long grass or dense ground litter.
