Monarch Flycatchers

(Family Monarchidae)

Of the 13 species in Australia only the Pied Monarch Arses kaupi and the White-eared Monarch Carterornis leucotis are endemic, although both the Satin Flycatcher Myiagra cyanoleuca and Black-faced Monarch Monarcha melanopsis are believed to breed only in Australia. Most species are small insectivores with broad, compressed bills and slender legs. A notable exception is the considerably larger Magpie-lark Gralliina cyanoleuca, which is primarily terrestrial.
