Two species of these lily-trotting birds, with grotesquely elongated toes, appear in Australia. The Australian Comb-crested Jacana Irediparra gallinacea is the only breeding species, while the Pheasant-tailed Jacana Hydrophasianus chirurgus is a vagrant.
